The Alabama Crimson Tide won the BCS National Championship on January 9, 2012 by defeating the LSU Bengal Tigers, 21-0, in an unprecedented performance. Under the leadership of coach Nick Saban, the victory gave the University of Alabama football team its 14th overall national championship and 2nd within the last 3 seasons. Finishing the 2011 season with a 12-1 record, the Tide proved their dominance over the previously undefeated Bengal Tigers to secure the national title. However, both teams should be commended and recognized for their respective and successful seasons which further establishes the SEC as the controlling presence in present-day collegiate football.
